Launch of the of the Gendered Innovations website

Emerging from years of research, the Gendered Innovations project: 1) develops practical methods of sex and gender analysis for scientists and engineers; 2) provides case studies as concrete illustrations of how sex and gender analyses lead to innovation. It is crucially important to identify gender bias and understand how it operates in science and technology. But analysis cannot stop there: Analyzing sex and gender prospectively can serve as a resource to stimulate new knowledge and technologies. The Gendered Innovations project adds value to science and engineering by ensuring excellence and quality in outcomes.

The Gendered Innovations project was initiated at Stanford University July 2009. In January 2011 the European Commission set up an expert group on “Innovation through Gender” for a duration of two years with the aim of developing the gender dimension in EU research and innovation. In addition to drawing experts from across the U.S., this project now involves experts from across Europe. The Expert Group is directed by Londa Schiebinger, Hinds Professor of History of Science, Stanford University; Ineke Klinge, Associate Professor of Gender Medicine, Maastricht University, Caphri School for Public Health and Primary Care; and Martina Schraudner, Professor of Gender and Diversity in Organizations, Technical University, and Strategic Research Planning, Fraunhofer, Berlin.
