Benoeming Leverhulme Trust Gasthoogleraarschap voor prof.dr. Rosi Braidotti
The Leverhulme visiting professorship is for a total of 10 months. Rosi Braidotti will be a research professor at Birkbeck and will do her own writing quietly. She will hold three public lectures on the theme of her visit, namely: "From bio-power to the politics of life itself". The professorship entails no formal teaching obligations but she will hold two graduate seminars, one specifically on the philosophies of life and the practices of death, from Michel Foucault to contemporary bio-technologies and war technologies. The second seminar is on feminist theory, specifically on women who kill for political reasons, from the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo to suicide bombers, Chechnyan war widows and other terrorists. Because all the colleges of London University are linked in a Consortium, and because for years Rosi has been a visiting professor in the gender institute of the London School of economics, she will try to cooperate with some of the other colleges in this university system, especially the LSE and Goldsmiths College. Last but not least, contacts have been made with the Tate Modern Gallery, to think about an art exhibition on the theme of her Leverhulme Trust Professorship. This could accompany the academic activities and highlight them.
